my family is going a cruise [yay] and it’s our first time going on a cruise. so we have no idea what the hell we r doing….
so plz give me some helpful tips!!!
and also my dad has motion sickness (especially on boats) so what should we do?

PLZ ANSWER!! thnks!

I recently took a cruise on Norwegian Cruise Lines. They are different in that they indicate you don’t have to “worry” about tipping because they take care of it for you automatically. Yes, they definitely put $10 per person per day onto your bill. And yes, you do tip servers in bars and restaurants as you would on other ships.

So why the “automatic tipping fee” if you’re leaving tips for your service people (who deserved it) all along during the cruise?

My suspicion is that only a fraction of the tips taken are actually distributed to the staff. The corporation holds back a significant portion and chalks it up to “administrative fees”.

It is frustrating to me because when I asked servers about the “pooled tips” they had no idea what amount they were getting.

Anyone know how much really goes to the staff?

About to leave in a few days for 10 nights on P&O Princess Dawn. We are new to the cruise based holiday and wanted some top tips (beside Kwells!). Do we do the organised shore tours or do our own thing? Beach towels or are they provided. Laundry powder… Any advise would be welcome. Thanks
Oops – meant Pacific Dawn – thanks for the pick up (it was late…!)

Does anyone have any tips on cruises with kids? We are going on one this weekend to the carribbean and I’m nervous that there won’t be much to do with kids or that others on the cruise won’t like that we brought them. We are going with other families (24 of us total with 4 kids). Please advise!
Well to answer most of you, ALL of our family is going on the cruise as a reunion. There will be no-one at home to watch the kids and why would I want to leave my baby for 10 days or even a 4 day cruise? This is a vacation for all of us. I did call the cruise line this am and they have some programs for the kids to get involved with. I was mostly hoping for tips on what others have done with kids on a cruise, not parenting tips on how to leave my kids with a sitter.

But the Prudhoe wells are drying up—and the prospect of replacing them appears ever more grim. Despite the capacity to carry 2 million barrels a day, the pipeline’s current flow is less than 700,000 gallons and falling at least 6 percent a year.

Alaska Senate candidate Joe Miller says his family benefited from Medicaid and a state-run health care program for low-income children and pregnant women.

The board of directors of Alaska Air Group (ALK) made a statement of support for chief executive Bill Ayer late yesterday, after Bloomberg News reported earlier in the day Ayer is the subject of a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation. Bloomberg reported that the SEC is probing whether Ayer and hedge fund Donald Smith & Co.
