I recently took a cruise on Norwegian Cruise Lines. They are different in that they indicate you don’t have to “worry” about tipping because they take care of it for you automatically. Yes, they definitely put $10 per person per day onto your bill. And yes, you do tip servers in bars and restaurants as you would on other ships. So why the “automatic tipping fee” if you’re leaving tips for your service people (who deserved it) all along during the cruise? My suspicion is that only a fraction of the tips taken are actually distributed to the staff. The corporation holds back a significant portion and chalks it up to “administrative fees”. It is frustrating to me because when I asked servers about the “pooled tips” they had no idea what amount they were getting. Anyone know how much really goes to the staff? ... - Tips on going on a cruise with a 6 year old and an 18 month old?
Does anyone have any tips on cruises with kids? We are going on one this weekend to the carribbean and I’m nervous that there won’t be much to do with kids or that others on the cruise won’t like that we brought them. We are going with other families (24 of us total with 4 kids). Please advise! Well to answer most of you, ALL of our family is going on the cruise as a reunion. There will be no-one at home to watch the kids and why would I want to leave my baby for 10 days or even a 4 day cruise? This is a vacation for all of us. I recently turned 22 myself. I have been on a few cruises and have one currently booked for this August. I prefer to cruise with Royal Carribean, but if you are looking to party and want a fairly cheap price, then I would suggest Carnival. Carnival is full of the younger crowd because it is cheaper but doesn’t offer all the entertainment that Royal Carribean does. If you are looking for something that lets you party and still has pampering at a good price then RCI is the way to go. If you are about the party and price then Carnival is great. No matter what line or itineray you choose, hey the way I look at it is: It’s a vacation! When I was researching my first cruise I went to cruisecritic.com, that website has so much to offer as far as information, links and reviews. I dont know if you have cruised before but I would recommend Carnival and they go out of Long Beach, and their rates are probably the cheapest and Celebrity has a 7 day Mexican Rivera Cruise going out of San Diego, and Ocean View staterooms from $629 per person. If you are a first time cruiser I would recommend Carnival as its more your age and it happens to have more drinking, partying, gambling, etc, the food is good, the entertainment is some of the best in the industry, and the staterooms are the largest in the industry from what I’ve heard. I would recommend Carnival as the rates are really good and their are going to be a ton of more people your age on the Spring Break cruise. I would also recommend a 7-day cruise as they are the best. Carnival has two 7-day cruises leaving out of LA (Long Beach) or San Diego, and the LA one is $799 per person and the other is $649 per person. The link is the cruise and the details.

I would definitely book Carnival, they tend to cater to a younger crowd, have good parties and activities that younger people enjoy, yet they are still a “nice” cruise as far as food and rooms, and I have always received top notch service. Below are the steps that I take to ensure I get the best price for my cruise. Also, check out cruisecritic.com for good reviews on certain ship and itineraries. The reviews are from people who actually have cruised that ship and that itinerary, and they usually leave their age and such so you can get a realistic view of what you want. Good luck and have fun!
Follow the steps below and you will get a knock out price on your cruise:
1. Start out at vacationstogo.com. They have reasonable rates and it’s the easiest to see all of the ports and embarkation dates. They generally have good deals, but you can get it cheaper (also, note that their prices do not include government taxes, and the prices quoted are for guaranteed rooms).
2.Go to cruisecheap.com. THey will generally have better rates than vacationtogo.com.
3. Use the rate from cruisecheap.com to get a quote from beatanycruiseprice.com. They will beat that price!
4. Finally, go to cruisecompete.com; They will beat the quote from beatanycruiseprice.com. I still book with beatanycruiseprice.com, just because I trust them and they are SUPER nice. Make them fight for you– the cruise industry is so oversaturated right now that most places will fight over getting a cruiser to book with them, and you will get a good deal. I just booked a Carnival 7 night Eastern Carribean for $986 for both me and my husband! You CAN cruise CHEAP!
PS: Note that the major vacation carriers (ie Travelocity, Expedia, etc) are more commercialized than say a smaller agency such as the ones I have listed above.
